thelibster: bass bits and pieces These are some of the sections of the site: There are two comprehensive series in the Lessons department - Reading Lessons and Chord Theory Lessons. These are step by step guides that take you all the way from square one. There are also a couple of lessons on modes & how they apply to the bass and various other bass related lessons, such as a couple on ghost notes and some on slapping. You will also come across dozens of exercises and practical examples. Go here to get midi-file tuning notes for each of the bass strings. These are famous bass lines that I've transcribed for some reason or another. A couple of other people have made contributions and I'm always looking for more contributors. Here are some more notated bass lines. I have arranged lots of music for Australian Idol, and some of the bass charts and accompanying recordings can be found here. There are lots of other basslines here as well, suitable for various standards. These include some of the pieces that I wrote or arranged specifically for bass students. They are aimed at beginner/intermediate level players. There is also the odd bit of Bach there at the moment and the odd more advanced piece. Any contributions? This is a diagram of the notes on the fingerboard,
which you can click on to hear the notes (midi file). There is also fingerboard general knowledge stuff and fingerboard
familiarity exercises here.
Go here to see a picture of the bass where you can
click on the different parts to get an explanation of them.
There is a brandspanking new Question and Answer page where you can ask bass related questions and have them answered by Mark Costa, bassist for Australian Idol. If you have anything to add about bass playing, the Libster Lessons, life in general, come and sign the guestbook at The Libster Lounge. The Libster Lounge is now back online, complete with silly survey. If you'd like to keep up-to-date with what's been added to the site, join the mailing list for the occasional Libster newsletter. This is a list of some of the sound files on the site. (It's not up-to-date yet but it'll get there eventually). A new, dynamic links section is now up - let me know if you think I should add anything.
